90% of people who completed the survey are female.

62.5% of people used social networking sites and music types of media. Noone was interested in gaming media. Only 37.5% were interested in television and 50%were interested in film.

75.0% listened to rock and pop the most, 50% listened to Hip hop, 37.5% listened to R&B, whilst only 12.5% listened to heavy metal and folk music, noone listened to Jazz, The blues, country and classical.

62.5% of people read NME magazine, 50% read Q magazine, 25.0% read Kerrang and 12.5% read smash hits magazine, noone read Mojo, Classic rock or Mixmag.

30.0% of people thought pictures band reviews and interviews were the most interesting thing in a magazine, only 10% thought the news was interesting.

63.6% would prefer to receive free merchandise, 18.2% would prefer to receive free gig lists and posters. Noone wanted exclusive offers or discounts.

45.5% of people listen to music alot and all the time, 9.1% listen to msuic sometimes, noone who took the survey never listen to music or listen to it a little.

63.6% of people listen to music via ipod and mobile phone, 54.5% listen to it via radio, 45.5% via television, 35.4% via hi-fi and only 18.2% via MP3.

Survey summary

My magazine is aimed at a Female audience aged between 16-19 years old, i will include articles on social networking music and film, as these were the top most interesting media in my results, the genre of music will be rock an pop as 75.0% of people chose that as the top two music genres, 62.5% of people liked NME magazine the most, so i want to take on that kind of style for my magazine. I will also make my magazine about interviews pictures and band reviews, as these were the most prefered interests in a magazine. My magazine will have free merchandise in it as that was voted the most prefered thing to receive in a magazine with 63.6% of the vote. My magazine will also be priced at between £2-£3 as 63.6% voted this as the price they would pay for a magazine, my magazine will have alot of music news and information as all of the people who compelted the survey listen to music alot or all the time. The most used way of listening to music is via Ipod and Mobile phone so i will probably include topics related to these two mediums.

Music Magazine cover analysis

Kerrang

Kerrang is a rock music magazine aimed at people who enjoy rock music. The magazine's name is onomatopoeic and refers to the sound made when playing a power chord on an electric guitar.

On the front cover;

The front cover text Is unorganised, the left third has the main article title and a pull quote written in a “reversed out” red and white. The skyline has a competition and further article information. The main image is of the people who are included in the main article, this is a mid shot. There is also a cover line at the bottom of the magazine listing bands included in the magazine. There is another picture in the left third of an article inside. The colour schemes on the front cover include black white and red, these colours are in keeping with the rock theme of the magazine.

Contents page;

The text on the contents page in kerrang is a lot more ordered and neat in comparison to the front cover, the colour scheme of black red and white is carried on but with a bright yellow added to highlight all the things the reader might be most interested in. There are a lot of pictures on the contents page which are related to the articles, the main articles which were found on the front cover have got ‘bullet point’ like stars which informs you this is a cover story, this is a nice touch as it provides easy access to the contents.

Mix mag

Mixmag is British dance music and clubbing magazine

On the front cover;

The masthead text is bold and the font is round and thick and uses bright highlighted colours against black, this makes it more eye-catching, the text is placed neatly and in columns. The mast head is also brightly coloured in aluminous pink, which reflects on the magazine genre. The lead

articles are placed in the left third in a large font to draw in the consumer, all other articles are in smaller texts on the right. The main image is quite dark so it makes the text more vibrant, The main image on the cover, is not a very clear shot, but it is the inside of a club, this is a long shot.

Contents Page;

Like the front cover mixmags contents page is all about the main image taking up most of the text space, also like the front cover the text is very ordered and it is on a dark background with bright text, the contents page takes up two pages, but dosent contain a lot of text. The contents list is very basic with simple bullet pointed numbers the title of the article and a short summary of what the article includes. The other images in the contents page have large page numbers, which makes them the consumer want to read them first.

Q magazine

Q magazine has been given the accolade of being the UK's biggest music magazine, having world exclusives with the most important bands on the planet.

On the front cover;

The front cover is minimal with, no skyline, no pull quotes, no cover line, it just has the main image, the masthead and the main article with the issue date and barcode in the left third. This cover is all about the main image, which is a long shot of the featured band, and  even thought there is minimal text and pictures on the cover, the mast head is still obscured.

Contents page;

The contents page is much like the front cover; minimalistic and too the point, there is a similar picture to the main image on the front cover, there are multiple other photos which have the page number of which the artists or band appears, then to see a short summary of that photo and what the article is about you have a traditional contents list with page numbers.  The colours included on the front cover continue here, and throughout the rest of the magazine, red white and black.

Overall comments;

My favourite front cover has to be the front cover for kerrang as I like how unorganised and random the pull quotes and article titles are, I like the colour scheme of black red and white as it suits the genre, I also like the font for the masthead as it looks cracked and damaged, but then in an absolout contrast to that, out of all three magazines I liked Q’s contents page the best, as it was on a double page spread, it’s arranged in a nice order, each new article is underlined, numbered and summarised, with a lot of different pictures which are also numbered to the articles page, I also liked that it had a “Q review” as this tells you about new albums and shows. I preferred the contents page to be like this as it is less hectic and although it suits the front cover to be busy and attract attention, you don’t want too many things jumping out at you on a contents page. I think my least favourite magazine was Mixmag, because even though the text Is bright and attention grabbing the rest of the cover is too dark.
